There are many instances in which a laser gum treatment could be used. If you have gum disease, the laser can be implemented to remove bacteria and plaque that is deep in the pockets of the gum tissue. During a biopsy, the laser is used to remove tissue from the needed area. Laser gum treatment can also assist if you would like to eliminate excess gum tissue and also lengthen the visible enamel for a more attractive smile. When compared to classic gum surgery, laser gum treatments are less invasive and do not require stitches. You may also require less or no anesthesia during the laser gum treatment, as well as less recovery time.
What to Expect
Laser gum treatment is an in-office procedure that normally requires a local anesthetic. However, other sedation options could be available if you have anxiety or dental fears. Before your procedure, Dr. Clement will go over exactly what you should expect during the process, whether you are being treated for gum disease, receiving an oral biopsy, or undergoing cosmetic gum contouring. The laser minimizes bleeding and often eliminates the need for stitches.
Dr. Clement will give you recovery instructions before you are discharged to go home. Considering that your gums may be sore or swollen, you may want to adhere to a liquid or soft food diet for a few days. For gum disease treatment or crown lengthening, you may have to schedule a follow-up appointment so Dr. Clement can assess your healing and decide if another treatment is necessary. If a biopsy was conducted, you may need to come back into our office to receive your results. If oral cancer is diagnosed, Dr. Clement will go over your treatment options and the next possible steps.
Once your laser gum plan is created, Dr. Clement will go over the costs. Great Lakes Bay Dental accepts several payment methods, including low-interest medical financing. If you have dental insurance, our office will contact your carrier to determine your coverage and out-of-pocket costs.
